Top Ten Tuesday- Favorite Books of 2017

Top Ten Favorite Books of 2017

Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosing TTT

I have hit my goal of 50 books already this year.  Yay!  I read a lot of great books and I enjoyed sharing books with friends and having mini-discussions here and there.  It was hard to pick only 10 of the best of 2017. I am thankful for a great reading year.

Beartown by Fredrick Backman
Read this book slowly to understand an internalize the words Backman uses.  I had a book club with A Man named Ove (that I read years ago and Loved!) and after reading Beartown, I am reminded how amazing Backman is.  Highly Recommended.  This would make a great winter read.

The Bridge Across the Ocean by Susan Meissner
This was a great book. I can't wait for future books from Susan Meissner.

The Hate U Give- By Angie Thomas
This Audiobook was well done and almost movie like to listen too.  I think this book will put some people out of their comfort zone, but is an impressive debut by Angie Thomas.

The Story of Arthur Truluv- by Elizabeth Berg
This book is a breath of fresh air.  Great character development and a feel good story that we all need sometimes.

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
This was a long read, but worth it!  Made for an amazing Book Club discussion.

This was a fun summer read. Great character development and well done flashbacks. I shared my copy with friends and we had fun discussions about it.  Karen White is one of my new go to authors.  I also read and enjoyed The Sound of Glass this year.

We Were the Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter
Highly recommended.  It made a great Audiobook and I learned a new perspective on WWII.

Hysterical book club read.  It was the perfect light hearted read I needed this summer after a lots of heavier books. Moms of kids ages 1-5 could relate to parts of this book (other parts got a bit far fetched, but still fun).

The Seven Sister's Books by Lucinda Riley
I listened to both books and love not only the character development, the world travel, but also the settings and flashbacks.  This series is a commitment, but I highly recommend it!

The Handmaid's Tale by Margret Atwood and The Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

Although both of these books were written years ago I read them this year since they are a mini-series and a movie.  I am so glad that I read these books before seeing the show and movie.

Honorable Mention-  The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen  and The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens and Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Have you read any of these books? Did they make your top 10 this year too?  Thanks for visiting!

  1. Great list! I read MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS not long ago. Haven't seen the movie yet, but I definitely plan to do that soon.

I've enjoyed Meissner's books as well. I just read an ARC of her newest, AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN. It's not my favorite of hers, but it is good.

    Happy TTT!

  6. Murder on the orient express is SO good!!! And I can't wait to read The Handmaid's Tale!!
The Hate U Give is one of the books I should have read this year but still haven't. However, I haven't heard a single soul not LOVING it, and I have no doubt that I should read it and enjoy as well. I love the spotlight it's been getting, and all of the themes it touches upon interest me a lot. I shouldn't postpone it anymore! IT IS GETTING DONE!

    1. Beartown is so good, but plan to take your time. The author has a way with words and it wasn't a book to skim, I had to read and think which I loved! I hope you enjoy it! Also, if you haven't listened to the audio version of The Handmaid's Tale by Claire Danes I recommend it. You might enjoy it with her voice if you are a fan of hers! Thanks for visiting!

  10. I haven't read any of these, but THUG is on my TBR list. I just need to get my hands on a copy, and then I can finally read it. I also need to read and/or watch The Handmaid's Tale. I've heard good things about both the show and the book.
